Buildings we have designed often need landscaping in order to get project approval by the city. Our office has developed innovative landscape solutions that go beyond the typical commercial landscape one sees everywhere. |
Fire Station,
Los Altos Hills,
California
| Original landscaping on slope was damaged when an oak tree fell; this is the replacement plan. We used a change in ground covers to suggest a stream flowing down the hill, supporting the illusion with bridge-like railings over the "stream." Plants were chosen for deer, fire, and drought resistance, and included fruitless olive trees, Arbutus 'Marina' trees, and California native coffeeberry shrubs. |

| The site was originally a sand volleyball court adjoining a parking lot. A curved seatwall blocks parking lot view and noise and provides seating. Fragrant shrubs help provide a pleasant atmosphere. Circular unit pavers provide visual interest. Architect: Wayne Renshaw. Contractor: Devcon Construction.
